Ugandan TV reporter Arrested by Police while on live Broadcast

Police in Uganda have arrested a top TV reporter during a live broadcast outside the house of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leader Kizza Besigye.

The NBS TV reporter, Elijah Turya, was arrested alongside his cameraman Wasswa Hassan and other journalists outside Besigye’s home where commotion ensued between the police and Besigye as he attempted to get out of his home.
Earlier, unknown demonstrators dropped piglets outside State House in Nakasero to protest the re-election of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Reports further indicate that Besigye has also been arrested as he attempted to leave his home to head to FDC Najjanankumbi Headquarters.
On Sunday, police allowed Besigye to attend a Church service though restricting his travel to a dedicated route.
He was later arrested as he attempted to deviate from the route and was taken to Kiira Road Police Station before he was put under house arrest.
There has been widespread dissatisfaction within Besigye’s FDC party over the February 18th elections which led to theannouncement of Yoweri Museveni as president, extending his 30-year rule by a further five years.
Museveni garnered 5,971,872 votes while Besigye, came second with 3,508,687 votes.

Amama Mbabazi came in third with 136,519 votes and followed by Abed Bwanika (89,005), Baryamureeba Venansius (52,798), Buta Biraaro (25,600) and Mabirizi Joseph (24,498) while Maureen Kyalya got 42,833.
Besigye and Mbabazi have however rejected the results saying they will file a petition in the Supreme Court to challenge the same.
